Social housing in the UK has taken on many forms and has provided various functions over the years. From the first estate in 1900 to the demise of tower blocks in the 1980s. Their role in society has changed somewhat from an ideological haven for original slum dwellers to streets in the sky to drug and crime ridden ghettos.
